Food Crisis in Bangladesh

Many of you have heard about the food crisis in Haiti, but it is also hitting Bangladesh in a severe way. I have a sponsored child in Bangladesh and was really saddened to read the post this morning on the Compassion blog.

To read a little bit more, go to this blog post. It will absolutely break your heart as you read the stories about these children.

Today I am asking you as your bloggy friend, to please pray for the families in Bangladesh when you thank God for your own food. If you are interested in giving some money, you can of course visit the Compassion website and designate funds to the food crisis in Bangladesh. (if they don't have a specific category for it, write a note. I did this after the last cyclone and it showed up on my contributions statement as Bangladesh cyclone relief)

On the Subject of Italian Food

Krista brilliantly pointed out that I forgot Italian food in my poll. Big apologies, I'll figure out a way to make it right.

But speaking of Italian food, last night I discovered why Fazoli's has been closing down left and right.

I went to a neighboring town to scope out the shopping scene (not to you know, DO any actual shopping) and did find some delightful things like a Christian bookstore and an independent used bookstore. (which well, is sort of a post in itself) Yes, yes, I'm a bookworm, that's the kind of shopping that makes me happiest. Anyway...

I spotted a Fazoli's and thought I'd stop for dinner. The Fazoli's by me has closed down and I sort of relate Fazoli's in my mind to yummy breadsticks dripping with butter and garlic. YUMMY!

I should have clued in to the fact that there was no one else to be seen anywhere near the restaurant. But sometimes I can be a little slow. I happily ordered my lasagna. I sat down and five seconds later they brought it out. That should have been clue number two. I know, I know Fazoli's real Italian real fast, but that's a little too fast. They brought me two breadsticks and sadly, they were completely dry. No dripping butter and garlic. The lasagna was pretty gross, too. And then it happened. That lasagna hit my system in a not so kind way. And I realized, I didn't really care if I ever went back to Fazoli's.

By the way, I loved Chikezie last night, anyone else?

Fun Candy

It seems the stores roll out all of the fun candy for Valentine's Day more than any other season.

In fact, I was delighted to spot a box of fun dip (my favorite fun candy) as Valentines! "What could be better?" I thought. I quickly racked my brains for a reason to buy this delightful, only 2.50, box of fun dip valentines.

It didn't take long to realize I could force these on my students! So with much happiness and anticipation in my heart, I snatched them up.

Of course, there they sat reminding me of my childhood when we used to go to the little convenience shop on the way home from school, count out our change, and buy all kinds of fun candy. (pre St. Louis days...Iowa, friends.) So I had just had to have one.

And oh my goodness gracious I think I forgot that those things are pure sugar! So while tasty and fun, I really didn't need that sugar buzz that crashed right before going home.

What is your favorite fun candy? If it wasn't one in the poll, do tell all!

Brach's Christmas Nougats peppermint flavor. Seriously, these are like the most awesome thing ever. I love them when they're soft....oooh!

What Christmas candy do you like?

Some Random Life Things

Is it possible to have a minor attack of the gout? Because my right ankle hurts in exactly the same way my left ankle hurt last Christmas, but it hasn't escalated. It just sort of hurts. Of course this time, I've been taking the anti-inflammatory meds straight away. I have also downed an entire bottle of cherry juice concentrate. So maybe that's helping. Oh and I've been drinking water off the charts.

I got Sara Groves new cd. As is usual for me with new cds, I fixate on one or two songs and then move on to the rest of it. My favorites so far are "I Saw What I Saw" and "It Might be Hope" Gorgeous, moving songs. I'll try to listen to the other songs sometime soon.

I'm rather alarmed at the current poll. Not one person likes sushi? I feel depressed.

Oh, and I recently watched Reign Over Me. It's a pretty moving film, recommended to all.

Guess that's it for now...Happy Weekend!

What Will They Come Out With Next...??

The only downside is that it doesn't taste much like candy corn. I'm not really sure what it tastes like, but it was a good effort, especially since the little kisses are colored just like candy corn! Super cute, but I suppose if I want candy corn, I'll just eat candy corn!
