Tube Talk Tuesday: Supernatural Season 1 Episode 5: Bloody Mary

Welcome to Tube Talk Tuesday, where Elizabeth of As Usual I Need More Bookshelves and I are reviewing season 1 of Supernatural. To read our discussion of episode 4, head on over to Elizabeth's blog.

Elizabeth asked me the questions and her part is italicized. I hope some of you will consider watching along with us and join in at any time!

Episode Synopsis: In suburban Nebraska, several partying high school teens jokingly dare their friend Charlie (MARNETTE PATTERSON) to look into a mirror and repeat "Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary," not knowing that this will unleash a series of mysterious murders.

Were you familiar with this legend before you saw the episode? Apparently it's a slumber party game - I am pretty sure I never played it at any slumber party I went to, because I don't think I'd ever heard of it.

Yes, actually! I do remember telling the creepy story at slumber parties. It might also have been in one of those Scary Stories books!

I liked that we got to see a different side of Sam this time - the past couple of episodes had sorta been "Angry Sam", but this week he seemed more sympathetic. Do you have a favorite "sensitive" brother? Or do you like them better when they have a little bit of edge?

I have a favorite brother, period. I heart Dean. But I do like my men with a bit of edge. ;)

When the boys were confronting Bloody Mary in the mirror, Dean's eyes started bleeding too. Do you think it was because Mary was just strong enough to affect both of them, or do you think Dean has a secret he hasn't shared, too?

It's all very mysterious, isn't it? I think Dean has a secret...and we'll find out later!

Speaking of secrets - how surprised were you when Sam's secret was revealed? And was that Jess he saw in the white dress at the very end of the episode?

I do think that was Jess! Was she pardoning him? Reminding him to avenge her? I was really intrigued by his secret. It puts a whole new spin on things and on his motivation to find her killer.

I think it was Jess, too, but I can't tell if she looked forgiving or MAD!
