What is Your Favorite Monster?

Happy Halloween everyone!

In honor of this most spooktastic day, I wish to know...WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MONSTER?

My favorite monster changes constantly as I am quite fond of all of them. I have a special place in my heart for vampires because they were the first creature of the night I fell in love with. I've told these stories so many times, but it's Halloween okay? Holidays are meant for repeating yourself endlessly. I fell in love with vampires via L.J. Smith's The Vampire Diaries series, and continued the love with the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. When I was a freshman in high school, I did an information speech on vampire lore. Oh this makes me laugh so much, when I remember how other people made food and I was full of doom and gloom.

I still love vampires, but my love for them has diminished somewhat after reading a lot of really terrible vampire books.

I also love werewolves! I didn't always love werewolves (I have goofy memories of the original Teen Wolf movies) but they are now among my favorite because I read some good werewolf books. (really that's all it takes) I like, of course, all the pack stuff in werewolf stories, I like that changing comes at a great cost, I feel werewolves are generally written to acknowledge pain and loss in a way vampires aren't. So that makes for delicious angsty story telling that I enjoy.

My preferred creature right now though is most definitely the zombie. Obviously this is a little special because I don't actually enjoy zombies themselves, rather the worlds they live in. I love that there are endless ideas to explore. I love The Walking Dead. (this week's episode was so good, I will probably give it it's own post) Zombies are just pretty fantastic, but I can tell you this...I don't really want to see thinking and feeling zombies in my stories. I'm reading one right now and it just doesn't work for me.

So what about you? What monsters do you love most? Which monsters should I get to know this year for next Halloween?
