I'm Issuing a Dare!

Now that the bulk of BBAW Awards Nominee Notifications (Book Blogger Appreciation Week Awards) have gone out (only those that do not require submission information remain to be notified), it's time to do something I've been wanting to do for awhile.

Dare someone in the I Dare You challenge.

See, the first season of Cheers is currently unopened under my bed but I do foresee a post BBAW Cheers watching party. Apparently I am going to become mad addicted and watch all 456 seasons. And if someone is doing that to me, well I want to do that to someone else! (watching the first season of Cheers was my challenge)

Who could I dare? I labored over this and finally realized...duh! Who hasn't watched one of my favorite TV shows even though pretty much everyone in the book blogosphere has told her she should? Nymeth of course!*

So here's my official dare, written at 12:23 A.M.

NymethAnaThingsMeanALot, I dare you to accept this challenge. I dare you to complete the one and only item on this list.

Watch the first season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

This challenge must be completed in: 1 year. I think that's terribly generous and full of fairness (and-also-I-hate-putting-pressure-on-people)

If you fail in this challenge you must write a public letter of apology. :)

But if you succeed then I will read any book of your choosing!

If you choose to accept this dare you must follow these rules:

* Blog about your acceptance and log in with Mr Linky on the correct Acceptance Post here.
* Blog about your thoughts after watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer the first season. When you've completed the challenge check in with Mr Linky on the correct Completed Challenge Post on the I Dare You to Accept This Challenge Blog!
Go forth and challenge someone else in order to spread this lovely image around the blogosphere and also evangelize for the things you love.

Oh and one more rule. You have to be patient with Buffy the first season. It takes awhile for her to find her slaying groove.

I hope you love it. I hope we're still friends.

(*She's been getting warm to the idea I think. It's not like asking her to watch 7th Heaven or something)

Anyone want to be dared to watch Veronica Mars?

  1. Ooo love Veronica Mars. But, I haven't watched it for a while. I just remember being so addicted to the first two seasons!! Sadly, I still haven't seen the first season of Buffy myself, even though I've even borrowed the DVD from a friend.

  2. You are tough! I get to interview Nymeth for BBAW, so I guess this needs to be addressed! I don't think I've watched one episode of Buffy, but I do love Cheers! I think my dad has the first season...good stuff!

  4. I can't believe Nymeth has never watched Buffy! I am in shock :o. I have just re-watched all seven seasons (again) in five weeks.

  6. Awesome idea! I wanted to send her my season 1 dvds when I saw her post about how she's never seen Buffy (but I think they are UK only).

  7. hilarious idea! i've never watched buffy...or really any shows since july 2000...the year we disconnected our television. we haven't had tv in 9 years!! hahaha.

we do have a tv and dvd/vhs player combo but if you turn on our tv alone, it's just snow.

i've watched a season or two of 6 feet under and while i loved it, it gave me bad dreams. i also got REALLY into arrested development and watched a whole seaon in a weekened. right now we're working our way through the muppets--as a kid it was my FAVORITE show...waaay back in 1978 and 1979.

  8. I love the idea of these dares, but I'm almost afraid to see what someone would try and make me do. LOL I've always been the "truth" chooser in those games of Truth or Dare.

I look forward to seeing what Nymeth thinks of Buffy. I was late coming into the show, but love, love, love it. Both my husband and I are Joss Whedon fans, and it all started there. :-) Good luck with the dare, Nymeth! And good choice, Amy!

  10. Oooh Buffy season 1, a classic. I just watched it a couple weeks ago. It was quite different watching now, 10 years after my unhealthy teenage obsession with the show. I'm working on season 2, but I got caught up in outdoor activities and a book challenge.

  11. This is a challenge right up my alley. I am a huge fan of Buffy and have watched all of the seasons...never missed one! And I just started rewatching Buffy on Hulu (where the entire first season is located...and it is free!). So excited to get back into Buffy :)

  12. I love Veronica Mars, but I'm also one of those people who haven't seen a single episode of Buffy. We watched Firefly and Serenity this last year, does that count?

  13. Cheers was on for 456 seasons?

:) Couldn't resist, Amy. Don't take my BBAW nomination away from me for pointing out this hilarious typo (which brought a much needed laugh to me today. :)

  15. Huuuuuge Buffy fan here, so I'm convinced you're doing quite a favor with this dare! I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that she will thank you for it later...

  16. I can't wait to see what Nymeth thinks of Buffy!

  17. Well, maybe it WAS 456 seasons - it felt that long! But the first season was the best, so you're in for a treat. I watched Veronica Mars religiously and still sometimes miss it, but someday I'll have to sit down and watch Buffy.

Have fun with your challenge. Cheers!

  19. I've already seen Veronica Mars. ^_^ Has anyone challenged you to do anything, Amy?

  20. I LOVE Buffy, but the first season is probably the least good.

I've never seen Veronica Mars, but Kristen Bell went to High School w/ my college roommates, though she was three years older than them.

  22. Neat dare - one that I'm sure my boyfriend would love to throw at me. I haven't really ever watched a full episode of Buffy but he owns every season and has been dying to get me to watch them. Maybe this is the year? We'll see ...

  23. hahaha i love the dares they're super cute
A Novel Menagerie sent me over here to thank you for BBAW and it is certainly a pleasure to do so! I was so excited when I was nominated, and I know that a ton of other book bloggers were too. It's really nice that you've set up a way for us all to feel appreciated for the work we do. You rock! Don't ever change! (Haha don't you just love the yearbook sign off)

  24. I love Firefly so I tried to watch Buffy, but was grossed out by the vampires. But I only watched the first 2-3 episodes on season one. Does anyone have suggestions of one or two episodes that might not give me nightmares in which Buffy gets her slaying groove on?

    ReplyDelete
  25. That's hilarious and so much fun! Let's see... what could I dare someone to do? And who would I dare?

  26. What's wrong w/ 7th Heaven? Huh? That oldest brother is a hottie!
I stopped watching after season 4.
