Rating System for 2009

For 2009, books, movies, magazines, television shows, and restaurant reviews will be accompanied by a star rating. The system will be based on 5 stars and utilize quarter star ratings to further clarify. (i.e 4.25 stars) These are based on my own gut reactions and there is no exact method as to how ratings will be assigned.

Additionally, I will point out sensitive elements that might offend some readers or of which they want to be aware using the following code at the end of each review:
L=offensive language
S=explicit sex
V=graphic violence
MC=openly mocks Christian beliefs
CF=Christian Fiction

*please note that if the book contains any of these elements at all, I will attach the code. If there is what I feel to be an unusually high amount of any one element it will be openly mentioned in the review.

I hope this will better clarify how I feel about books and whether or not they are a good fit for you!

Hi Amy,
saw your wish list at Amazon. Only one DVD in all those books :-)

Are you going to keep your letter/code in the sidebar? I can decipher 5-star ratings or an A, B, C letter grade, but I'm not sure I'll remember your L,V, etc.

(not trying to be high maintenance, just a suggestion :) )

nbp..ha, I'm hoping that having that there will help me to remember to keep my wishlist updated. :)

Kara...you're too kind. :)

Dawn...that's a good idea, thanks. It does follow similarly to what the television uses. In fact, I pretty much stole is straight from tv ratings. ;)

you know what would be funny (yet highly unlikely and almost next to impossible)? if you found a book that fit every letter. :)

I like the idea of codes at the bottom of a review. I do get tired of ferreting out everything that could possibly offend a reader and having to spell that out in each review. This is a great idea!

Oh, and I'm tagging you for the Butterfly Award!

Glad to see you do book reviews here. I found this blog after starting to write for the Rabbit Room, and I'm looking forward to following it and reading your book reviews!
