Review: 666 Park Avenue by Gabriella Pierce

Shamefully, I got 666 Park Avenue as an ARC ages ago, but I only now just read it. And I have to admit a lot of the reason I wanted to read it is because ABC has developed a show based on it that's coming on this fall....but wow. After reading this and watching the trailer for the show, I have a feeling this is going to be more like The Lying Game where the show is only loosely based on the book. Like...maybe having the same setting and the same title and that's it.

I thought this book was fun, though. Jane has met a new man, Malcolm, and she has a really strong attraction to him, like ridiculously strong. And he asks her to marry him relatively quickly, but she doesn't mind too much, after all he's wealthy and the sex is great right? She goes to tell her overprotective grandmother, but when they get to her farm, they discover she's dead. Jane discovers that she's left a letter behind, though, with a shocking secret! Jane is actually a witch!

Jane's worried about keeping this huge shocking secret from Malcolm, though, and does her best to hide her odd relationship to electricity from him and his family. Her mother-in-law is overbearing with the wedding plans, and Jane thinks there are some strange things going on in Malcolm's family as well...little does she know...

I don't want to spoil the whole book, but I think you can kind of guess where it might be going! This is a quick, sudsy, fun supernatural book. It's a bit humorous, very silly and over the top, and if you take it for what it is, a lot of fun. There is one section where Jane faces a kind of deep moral dilemma, that sort of surprised me and I'm guessing that will be explored more in future books. And the magic calling to magic does seem like it would be a difficult situation...you know if you felt powerful attraction to every guy with magic in his blood that could get to be a bit much.

I'm kind of disappointed the show doesn't seem to be going in the same direction, because I think it could be heaps of fun, BUT it does seem like the show will be good times, too. I've posted the trailer below!

Rating: 3.5/5
Things You Might Want to Know: lots of sexy times (they aren't long scenes, though)
Source of Book: ARC received from publisher ages ago
Publisher: HarperCollins

Will you guys watch the show? Please say yes. I'm getting depressed watching shows no one else does!
