A Bunch of Different Things

After the fall festival recipe exchange, I had people start asking if I had anything planned for Christmas along the same lines. :) And yes actually, Nicole and I are working on something we think is pretty awesome and we'll share as soon as we get details together and probably after Halloween...just know it's coming! :)

I'm also planning a pretty big Christmas theme for the month of December on this blog. Since this is my blog, I'm going to freely say Christmas and yes there will be lots of faith tie-in, because honestly the Christmas season is a time when God feels dearer to me than any other if that can possibly make sense. Having said that, I hope even if you aren't Christian or even if you don't celebrate Christmas you will enjoy it. I love year end celebrations of all kinds, and I have always enjoyed learning about how other faiths and cultures celebrate this time of year.

I tell you all of this now because I'd like to invite a few guest posts for the month of December...but there's a catch. You have to love holiday music. And now you've probably figured out my theme! I'm looking for a few guest posts about either a Christmas song that is special to you or a special memory involving holiday music...that sort of thing. If you have some ideas of the kind of post you'd like to write, please shoot me an email at mypalamyATgmailDOTcom or use the contact form at the top of this blog and we'll talk! :)

Now to something coming up much sooner...the readathon!

I love the readathon and this time around I am going to be totally selfish. I have signed up for one thing and one thing only which is to be a reader. I am really hoping to get a lot read this time and will probably try to stay off the internet as much as possible in order to achieve that goal. But so much of the readathon is the fun of connecting with everyone so I will allow myself periodic breaks to check in! I only finished two books last readathon and that is a big reason for this decision. :) I was originally planning to read New Moon and make it a tradition to read the next book in the series right before the movies comes out, but I'm just not feeling it. I don't even have a pile to show you, because I am simply overwhelmed with choice. So I will probably post a picture of my pile at the actual starting point.

I Dare You Challenge
Also I thought I should update you on my progress in the I Dare You Challenge! In case you didn't know, Sharon and Rebecca dared me to watch the first season of Cheers by February. I am three discs into the first season of Cheers which means that I have just one left. I am really enjoying it, much more than I thought I would. Is it LOST? Not by a long shot, but it's a lot of fun. And how is Ms. Nymeth doing with Buffy? I don't even think she's started yet! Which might be smart, because as soon as you start you have less left to enjoy. :) Meanwhile, Swapna in her overacheiver ways finished the first season of Veronica Mars before I had time to write up a formal dare challenge post. And of course she likes it, who doesn't?

Book Acquisition Ban?
Lastly, I am in serious need of considering a book acquisition ban. Somehow the amount of books I'm acquiring sneaks up on me and suddenly I'm trying to figure out were else I can stash books. And I'm really really really running out of space. But the thought makes me so sad....and I know how weak I am. To be honest, I'm partly convinced that a book acquisition ban would only work if I also instituted a book blog reading ban....the lust for books in my heart when I read all your fabulous reviews is hard to squelch. Ah, but this is venturing into another post I have planned...so for the moment if you have any ideas on how I could make this work, please let me know!

That's all for this Monday morning....tell me what you think about it all and don't forget to email me if you have a great Christmas music related story! :)

The reason why I haven't started it yet is because Kailana said she'd watch it with me and she's waiting for her turn to come at the library. But I went out and got it! That's a start! :P

I was very sad to miss the Fall recipe exchange, so I'm happy to hear you have Christmas plans :D

No Christmas music stories, sorry! However, I can share my book storage solution. I had my Dad make me a new bookshelf to fit into an otherwise awkward and unusable corner of my family room. When that is full (and it won't be long!!!) I'll go looking for other similar corners that a bookshelf could fit into nicely.

Loved the Fall Recipe Exchange, so I'm really looking forward to whatever you have planned for Christmas!!

Great job with your progress on Cheers! What a fun challenge :)
Last month, my daughter and I got this crazy idea that we suddenly wanted to watch Grey's Anatomy, after never having watched it. BUT, we wanted to watch it from the very beginning instead of trying to jump into a new season cold. So we challenged ourselves to catch up on 5 full seasons before season 6 premiered at the end of Sept...which gave us less than 2 weeks to complete our goal. We missed it by 24 hours! {but we certainly had fun}

I have a book acquisition ban going on right now. It's quite painful. It ends on October 31 and I'm going to try very hard not to go on a book shopping spree once that day passes. I have pre-ordered a few books, but again, trying to keep things under control!

I don't think a book acquisition ban would work for me either. No matter how many books I already have, there are still more that I want.

I'm going to have to think about the Christmas song story. Nothing immediately comes to mind, but at our house, we always have the holiday music channel on TV when we are decorating, or baking or wrapping gifts. I am always impressed with how you always have a few irons in the fire...always an idea cooking, that Amy!

I have a book buying ban as well. However, I have a rather large credit at Amazon (every holiday brings more gift cards)from which I can draw at any moment to buy something for my Kindle. And I have a wonderful library, so I use that in excess!

You are just an idea queen, Amy. You make the whole of book-blog land ever so much more fun.

I can't even imagine banning myself from buying books. That would probably make it worse. I tend to rebel and I would probably go on some insane spree. Best to just let it happen is my motto!!

Can't wait for the readathon its going to be a blast.

So true about the book acquisition ban and having to stop reading book blogs! I've actually done pretty well this year at not acquiring too many new books--but you should see my Amazon wishlist! It's huge! The library helps as well...I put things on hold, and even if I don't get around to picking them up, I somehow feel better for just adding them to the list.

Good luck with the book buying ban and reading during the read-a-thon

I am moving up the list at the library! I promise I won't hold Ana up too much longer!

Hooray! I was really wondering if you were planning another festival for winter. I really enjoyed visiting everyone's blog and checking out all their recipes. :)

I don't really have a memory related to Christmas music--at least not that I can think of at the moment. My favorite Christmas songs are Jingle Bell Rock, We Three Kings, and I Wonder as I Wander.

I'm not a Christmas music person, but I do think I could actually contribute a recipe for Christmas, so I do hope you and Nicole allow that! =) Keeping to a book ban is harder with book blogs. I haven't been reading them for a few days and already I feel less need to acquire more books! But then today I opened my GR and it immediately reminded me of everything I want. LOL. I hope you find a solution.

I am no help to book banning except that I've started using my library more and audiobooks and eBooks take up no space.

You don't want to know what I think about Christmas music (you can ask me) but I love to cook so count me in for anything food related.

I'm being selfish too - maybe next time I'll sign up to cheer a little, but I'm just reading this time. Cannot wait!

I haven't bought a book in months. How? It's called the library. It's a crazy new concept. ;) To me, I'm spoiled by the library, especially interlibrary loan and even movies on DVD.

You just have to be strong when it comes to book bans, think of all the other things you could do with your money - like giving to charity! And you'll save so many trees...

I can't believe you are calling someone else an overachiever!!! (And I mean that in the nicest way possible .... just reading your blog makes me very tired sometimes. I don't know how you do all this.)

Hi Amy,

I was reading your post and I see that you seem to love Christmas as I do! I have a Christmas Reading Challenge starting on Thanksgiving day, if you're interested in joining: http://thetruebookaddict.blogspot.com/2009/10/christmas-reading-challenge.html

Also, I have a Christmas page on MySpace that I'm moving over to Blogger on to a Chrismtas blog. I plan to have it ready by the first week in November. *fingers crossed* I will probably have a Christmas book giveaway the first week in honor of it's inauguration!

Finally, I have a music player on my blog which a lot of bloggers think is a no no, but I (and many others) love it. I will probably add some Christmas songs too and I'll have a Christmas music player on my Christmas blog. I would love to do a Christmas guest post as I have a special holiday album that has been a family tradition since I was 5 years old or younger.

I'm participating in my first Read-a-thon Saturday and I'm really excited!

Best,
Michelle =o)

I've got to work on my Dare challenge....I've watched the requisite required Closer episodes but have to recap them for it to count. haha

No need to feel selfish about spending most of your read-a-thon time reading! This is an impossibility for me as I love to chat, so this time I officially signed up for a cheerleader role and that way won't feel so guilty about spending too much time on the computer. I only signed up for 4 hours and I hope to do most of them late late into the event, but I agree with you that the community interaction is what makes the event so fun.

Book bans? I think cutting yourself off will only make you antsy and want more. Maybe just wait on a book and if in a week it's still calling your name then go for it. I've been using the approach and it's been working much better. And I find that the books I do buy are ones that I read fairly quickly instead of stashing them on the shelf for years (literally).

Did you get the PDF I sent you with all the submitted recipes for the Fall Recipe Exchange?

I am also on a self imposed book acquisition ban. Except I might stop by the library for one book on the way home tonight. Just one. Hunger Games, so I can make that exception.
I do have a Christmas story about music if you are interested. Music in general was always on in our house growing up.
