Summer of Hitchcock Schedule

A few weeks ago, I suggested we watch something together to pass the long summer months where the good new television is minimal. I put up a few suggestions and watching Alfred Hitchcock films and making your own schedule of award winning films battled it out. In the end, watching Hitchcock films won out by a narrow margin.

So let's call it...Summer of Hitchcock!

Here's how it will work. I'm going to put up a schedule of the films we'll watch. I know this will be tricky. We'll be battling it out at Netflix and Blockbuster to get the films on time. But hopefully, everyone will be able to get them. Then each Monday I will put up a post discussing the film and add a Mister Linky. You can put your "review" or thoughts about the movie up on your own blog or just come discuss in comments!

I've also put two Twitter nights on the calendar...these will be nights where we'll watch together (if you want) and chat about the film on Twitter.

The films chosen are based on what people said are their favorites, so whether you're rewatching or watching for the first time I hope you enjoy and have fun.

Oh one other thing...feel free to snag the button and promote..I think the more the merrier!

June 15--Discuss North by Northwest
June 22--Discuss Dial M for Murder
June 29--Discuss Rear Window
July 6--Discuss Psycho
July 13--Discuss The Birds (Twitter night on Friday July 10 at 9 PM Eastern Standard Time, 6 PM Pacific.
July 20--Discuss Spellbound
July 27--Discuss The Man Who Knew Too Much
August 3--Discuss Vertigo
August 10--Discuss Rebecca (with bonus book tie-in!)
August 17--Discuss Marnie
August 24--Discuss The Trouble with Harry (Twitter night on Friday August 21 at 9 PM Eastern Standard Time, 6 PM Pacific Time)

Because this is me, there are bound to be some sort of fun prizes and additional challenges along the way! So stay tuned....for the Summer of Hitchcock!

(Please let me know in comments if you plan to join in!)

Sounds like so much fun. I've seen most of these so if I can't get the movie, I should be able to at least discuss. I hope to join in, but I'm not making promises (depends how the summer shapes up).

Can't wait!! I'm going to add the first couple of flicks to my Netflix right now.

Oh fun! I have no idea how many of these I'll actually get to watch. I'll be checking the library for availability. I'll be participating when I can.

FYI--Dial M for Murder, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Vertigo, Marnie and The Trouble With Harry are all available with the Watch Instantly feature on Netflix.

I'm in like Flynn! I completely missed this entire discussion. How did that happen? Nevermind, please don't answer that. What makes this so much fun for me is that my husband loves film and Hitchcock. I've seen half of these already, with Rear Window being my favorite (followed closely behind by Rebecca). My hubby and I took a frame by frame class on The Birds taught by Roger Ebert at the Virginia Film Festival a year or two before Emma was born. It was a spectacular experience and I'll be sure to post about that. We also saw Vertigo in someone's back yard on a drive-in movie theater size screen. That's a fun story, too.

Thanks for doing this, Amy! I can't wait to get started. This summer I'll fall in love with Grace Kelly and Jimmy Stewart all over again. :)

I watched these when I was 10. I wouldn't go to bed and my dad had to carry me to bed. My brother for months had to check my closet. I don't think I'll be watching them.

I'll be participating as much as possible - unfortunately I think this will only be for 3 or 4 movies! I'm still excited about it though!

It's official. I'm a complete and utter dork. I just set up a new Google Calendar for 'Book and Blog stuff) so I could put the dates for these on my online and ipod calendar.

I also realized that since I've never read Rebecca, I need to read it before August 10th. So today when I go to the library I'll not only get North by Northwest, I'll also get the book Rebecca. I've wanted to read it for years, so thank you for the reason to read it soon!

I will try to join in most of the discussions! This should be fun since I like Hitchcock films and we own most of them!

Amy: Did you know "The Birds" is from a short story by Daphne du Maurier (who wrote "Rebecca")? Maybe you could do a short story tie-in...
