Vampires or Werewolves?

I'm going to be honest with you. I know that vampires and werewolves are all the rage. That they are the subject of many a hot romance novel. That women swoon at the mere thought. I totally get that for one of them....vampires. But I just never really got the werewolf thing AT ALL. I mean, gross!!

Maybe it's my history with each one. After all, here's my history with vampires:

Pretty hot stuff, right? :) Those pictures represent some great stories!!! Now here's what I think of when I think of werewolves:

So, um, yeah. There's just really no competition. There is nothing particularly sexy about turning into a dog to me. Not to mention that I just prefer everything about the vampire mythology. Oh the tragedy of it all!

But recently I received the entire Kitty series by Carrie Vaughan for review. (so did a bunch of other bloggers!) I've just finished the first book in this series about werewolves and was surprised to find that I really enjoyed it and found more complexity (or potential for complexity, I should say) in the werewolf mythology than I originally thought. My full review will be coming soon, but I do have to say that even though I enjoyed the werewolves more than I thought I would, as soon as Arturo, the vampire master came on the scene I wanted more of him! But then I thought of a few other werewolf stories I like, such as Lupin in Harry Potter, and of course, this one:

But enough about me...how about you? Do you prefer vampire stories or werewolf stories or those stories where they are fighting each other? Or do you just hate all this stuff? :)

Depends. If it's the same old same old I'm like yawning. I liked the Jack Nicholson character in the werewolf movie he played in because it was so multi-dimensional. I'll be interested in your review of this new series. If there is complexity and some new twist on the old story then cool.

I don't get the werewolf thing either. I'm an animal lover but...um...not like that.

Give me a vampire any day. Edward Cullen will do!

I'll have to go with....neither.

I don't read about either one very often, but I see there is a new Underworld movie out: The Rise of the Lycans. I am dying to see it! I loved the first two in the series when Kate Beckinsale was in them!

I'm odd - I'm not into either one.

Definitely vampires, but like you, I don't have much exposure with werewolves!

I wouldn't mind meeting up with a sexy vampire one night, but if I was going to BE one, I'd rather be a werewolf. I enjoy reading werewolf stories better, and I hate that people think of them as this half man half wolf breed, yuck.

I love the vampire stories. Not necessarily romances...though a little thrown in is ok.

I have read the first two in the Kitty series and LOVED them.

I can honestly say that I have never found a vampire sexy until Edward Cullen!

Huh-uh, neither one.

I am a vamp lover myself. I tried one series of books that had werewolves, but just couldn't get inot it. They were too dark and brooding, and not in a good way. Very depressing I guess. But I'm always willing to give it another shot :)

Vampires over werewolves, although I might make exceptions for Remus Lupin and Oz (we're watching Season 3 of Buffy on DVD right now).

They just have to make a few movies with a more modern representation of werewolves, I guess.

I have the Kitty books here to read, too. I just read the first one and my review is forth-coming as well!

perhaps my recent Moonlight obsession post has not made this clear...LOL Ok, for me it is obvious that I love VAMPIRES....

however, in spite of the teen wolf saga (which is just disturbing to me) i think werewolves are undervalued...check out the underworld series...and scott speedman's character...and the latest movie Rise of the Lycans. werewolves can be tragic and loveable as well.

I will agree with Lenore's answer and pick...Neither!

I prefer vampires to werewolves, but I'm SO SICK of the romantic vampire. Give me scary vampire any day. I've tried to get into werewolves, but have never understood the draw there - the only one I've ever liked has been Lupin in Harry Potter. That said, I looked into the folklore of werewolves a few years ago and that was SO MUCH more interesting than the werewolves we have in pop culture now.

Going on the photos the vampires have it (ah Spike!) but I always had a soft sopt for Jacob over Edward!

I would have to say it depends on which author I'm reading at the moment *winks*. I tend to weave my head around the characters in the current book. I would love to see what Anne Rice would do with werewolves. As for perference, I'm Cherokee I tend to believe in the whole concept of skinwalkers, shapeshifters (sharing space with your animal guides). So the plausibility of Werewolves is definitely more so than vampires. In any case who wouldn't be tempted by either if it meant immortality and living forever. (Hugs)Indigo

Can we count Wolverine as a werewolf? Because then maybe....
