Confessions of a Shopaholic Movie...Will It Be Any Good?

It might surprise you to learn, but I adore Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella. I don't want to hear any lectures. I think it's delightful and fun and romantic and did I mention fun?

And having some small shopaholic tendencies myself, I just really get these books.

As always, I'm a little unsure of the movie...I'm not thrilled with the casting of Isla Fisher. For another, why does it have to be American? And for a third, the plot seems drastically different.

I'm afraid it's going to be like The Nanny Diaries. A cute movie in and of itself but not nearly as rich as the book and sort of missing the whole point.

What do you other Shopaholic fans think?

I'm totally and completely with you on this one. I think if I go in to the movie looking at it as based on the book then I'm going to be disappointed. If I watch the movie just on its own basis then in and of itself it might be good. I absolutely loved this book series though, and I'm really not feeling the good vibe that they're going to do a great job making the two go hand in hand.

As an Aussie I have a peripheral interest in whether Isla Fisher can carry a role like this, but that's about it in terms of interest in this film. Maybe it's because I haven't read the books..who knows.

Hmm...I love the books too and I'm not impressed with that trailer. And isn't Becky British?

I enjoyed the Shopaholic books, too! If the trailer's any indication, I won't like the movie.

I love Shopaholic! I am so scared of how this movie is going to be made - I think it will be disappointing, which is a shame because it could be really great! I love Isla Fisher, but definitely didn't picture her as Becky - and she has an accent (Australian?) so why make her American

I am a Shopaholic fan. I am not sure about the movie though. It being American isn't right, I mean Becky is British and that was the whole fun of the books. It might be okay but it certainly won't be like the books. I agree with you Amy its going to be like the Nanny Diaries. Which is too bad as I loved the books.

I'm with the others - why morph Becky into being an American? Do the producers of the movie think that Americn audiences will only connect with an American female lead?

If Becky's not British, then it just ruins the whole idea. Though I guess that means they can't do Shopaholic Takes Manhattan...

Any ideas as to why Bridget Jones stayed British -- albeit with an American actress in the role--and Shopaholic didn't? BJ seemed to do pretty well, even if U.S. audiences didn't get every single reference.

I love the books too Amy! I had not heard details of the movie until your post. I have to say I am disappointed that it is being Americanized and Isla Fisher - hmmm. I'll watch it but I hope it doesn't ruin my image of Becky!

I love love love these books. However movies are never as good and many times they ruin the whole plot line. I hope this isn't the case here.
