The Stand Along!

I'm going to give it a try after all! Basically, I'm going to be reading The Stand by Stephen King over two months with a group of people I love (which is what made it irresistible). Here's the sign-up meme:

What makes you want to read The Stand?

I have never seriously thought about reading it before, but so many bloggers I love were signing up for this challenge and I realized that maybe I should read a book by one of the best known authors of our time. And this is supposedly his best so...

Describe your preconceived notions of The Stand.

I think I watched a few minutes of the movie (mini-series?) on Netflix. The premise of a dangerous virus or whatevs is very appealing to me as I enjoy apocalyptic stories that utilize viruses.

What was the last scary(ish) book you read or movie you saw?

The Woman in Black (the on with Harry Potter in it) It was so bad, I really didn't like it at all. I think good horror is so so hard to come by, I end up thinking most of it is stupid.

Which version of the book will you be reading from?

The uncut mass market paperback! I kind of wanted to read the original since I've heard The Stand is a good example of why editing is important, but I couldn't find it, and most people I talked to seemed to think either version was fine. We'll see!

What are you previous experiences with Stephen King?

I've seen some of the movies but they are always a disappointment to be honest! I think that payoff is always really weak for the suspenseful build.

Anything else you'd like to add (bonus points for being extra random).

I'm also supposed to be rereading Harry Potter soon with friends! Yay for big chunky books this summer.

I hope some of you guys will join in as well, you can sign up at Trish's blog! :)
