Faith'n'Fiction Saturday: Heaven

Faith and Fiction Saturday is a weekly discussion about faith and fiction. You can participate by leaving a comment or writing a post on your own blog and leaving the link in comments.

We read Peace Like a River by Leif Enger for this month's round table which will be hosted at the end of the month. There's a beautiful depiction of the afterlife in this book that was easily my favorite part of the entire novel. It got me to thinking about how Heaven has been depicted through our imagination in literature. Gina Holmes also describes a passing scene in Crossing Oceans which was tear-inducing and beautiful. Another book that had a strong "heaven" element to it was The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold.

Have you read any particularly satisfying descriptions of Heaven in books or do you have a favorite movie that portrays it? What do you personally think the afterlife will be like? I look forward to your contributions of heavenly descriptions in story, film, or song that have struck you. (My favorite song about heaven is "After the Last Tear Falls" by Andrew Peterson. When you are going through an emotionally agonizing time the idea of oceans and oceans of love is the most comforting thing in the world.)
