Review: Hearts at Stake: The Drake Chronicles by Alyxandra Harvey

Hearts at Stake Cover
Hearts at Stake: The Drake Chronicles
showed up at my house one day and I took a look at it and thought...I love vampires but do I really want to read this? But then I started reading it and was instantly engaged. It turned out to be the perfect read for my frame of mind, and I wanted the sequel the moment I finished.

Lucy and Solange are best friends, but Solange is not your typical teenage girl. She's actually a vampire princess. Well, she's not a vampire princess yet, but she's been born into a rare vampire family where the children turn into vampires on their sixteenth birthday. Due to a prophecy, it's expected that she'll overthrow the current vampire queen and take power.

She's got seven really protective older brothers who are trying to protect her from all the vampire crazies who seek to destroy her. And yes, that's pretty hot.

The vampire mythology in this book is a bit complicated for such a short story, but it's a lot of fun and fairly easy to catch onto. The story is told in alternating first person points of view from Lucy and Solange which actually gives us two fun romances. It's a very light manner of writing, a bit like chick lit, which makes it incredibly engaging. I finished it quickly after picking it up and it started my whole kick into reading the Blue Bloods series as I needed more vampires.

If you're looking for a fun read with some romance and of course my favorite creatures of the night, vampires, than I really recommend Hearts at Stake!

Believe it or not, but after I read about 20 Anne Rice vampire novels back in the day, I haven't picked up a vampire novel since. I do have "Let the Right One In" sitting on my shelves for the Read the Book/See the Movie Challenge. One of these days, I'll get back in the swing of it!

LOL! I asked myself the same question when it showed up at my house. Of course I answered it differently...by giving it away. Glad you enjoyed it though!
