The Sunday Salon and a Bookish Meme

Tomorrow the BBAW shortlists will be live! I'm so excited! The BBAW Awards Committee worked their little tushes off to bring you these lists and I'm so thankful for all of their hard work. A relatively small group of people did a whole heck of a lot of work and they deserve all kinds of love. :)

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but 1,000 blogs were nominated. I must concede defeat in ever being able to read all of the book blogs out there.

I've been able to do some reading this week, and I'm currently reading Sometimes We're Always Real Same-Same by Mattox Roesch. It's really good so far, I'm enjoying it heaps. Plus, it has one of my favorite book titles I've heard this year. Unbridled Books wanted me to check it out because of a faith element (I'm typecast LOL) and I will actually have a lot to say about that in my review. :)

I saw this meme on a few blogs, but first at Bookgazing (which is one of the 1,000 book blogs you should definitely be sure be reading) and I wanted to do it so here goes!

Using only books you have read this year (2009), answer these questions. Try not to repeat a book title. It’s a lot harder than you think!

Describe yourself: The Reader (Bernhard Schlink)

How do you feel:

Describe where you currently live: Fragile Eternity (Melissa Marr)

If you could go anywhere, where would you go? Winter in Madrid (C.J. Sansom)

Your favorite form of transportation: The Host (Stephenie Meyer)

Your best friend is: Secret Keeper (Mitali Perkins)

You and your friends are: Sometimes We're Always Real Same-Same (Mattox Roesch cheating a little because I haven't finished!)

What’s the weather like: 20 Boy Summer (Sarah Ockler)

You fear: Nothing but Ghosts (Beth Kephart)

What is the best advice you have to give: Either You're In of You're in the Way (Noah and Logan Miller)

Thought for the day: Stop Me if You've Heard This One Before (David Yoo)

How I would like to die: Tender Graces (Jackina Stark)

My soul’s present condition: The Ruins (Scott Smith)

Let me know if you also have played along or decide to! It's kind of challenging! Happy reading and books everyone!

Wow, 1000! That's a whole lot of book bloggers! You guys have done an absolutely wonderful job of bringing such a large volume of material together, and I know BBAW is going to be a ton of fun. Thanks again for all your work!

Good to know it's only ghosts you fear Amy, you can just fling that in the faces of all the vamps and werewolves during RIP :)

Also yay excited to see the shortlists (sad Renay's nom got eaten by her email as she was one of my nominations, but yay for seeing who else got through).

I can't wait to see all the shortlists! I know voting is going to be so difficult, but for now I'll just be happy to see who is up so I can start choosing.

I did that meme today but haven't posted it yet. Maybe Tuesday. I like your choices, especially Nothing But Ghosts, that's better than the one I chose (and you know I even read the book, LOL)!

1,000 blogs?!?! That's amazing ... and a true testament to how important people see BBAW, and all that work you (and all the folks behind-the-scenes) are doing. Thank you.

I may not be able to sleep tonight ... so excited for everyone!

What a wonderful meme..I'm grabbing it for later.

Thanks to you, BBAW is what it is. You are to be commended. No bitching allowed! We all anxiously await the short lists tomorrow. It will be so rewarding to see our hard work come to fruition.

I like this meme; I've seen it around. I may participate, but will have to wait until my brain isn't mush. I believe it will require some creativity!

1,000! One of my panels felt like that many, but that's incredible! I know that tomorrow is going to be a fun day for all of us, shortlisted or otherwise. I'm glad I'm home from work. Thanks again, Amy, for all you've done to pull this together.

That is a fun meme, too. I wish I had read The Reader so I could use that. LOL!

Wow, 1000 blogs nominated ... just how many book blogs are out there?!? Thanks to you and your sleepless Awards Committee for all your work!

I have SOMETIMES WE'RE ALL REAL SAME-SAME waiting on my shelf; I love the title, too.

I've been catching up (OK, *trying* to catch up) on blog reading this weekend, and I've seen a few iterations of this meme. It's so fun and clever; enjoyed all your answers.

Fun! I did a meme like that on Facebook with music (songs by one artist - I did U2). I'm going to do the book one right now. Thanks for the idea! (PS -- Wow, 1000 blogs! Crazy!).

I love reading everyone's answers to the title meme. It's so clever.

Congrats on the great job done! The number of blogs speaks a lot about how big BBAW has grown to be. Kudos to all of the BBAW team!

And I like your answers to the meme. Really fun!

Well done on all the work you've done for BBAW.

I did this meme on my blog as well. Though, I see now I should have written the author's name to go along with my answers! It certainly was harder than I thought it would be :)

I'm planning on playing along soon. It's such a fun meme.

Great job Amy! That meme is hard so I'm chickening out ;)

So I've only been a book blogger for a very teensy tiny shortish time and as such, didn't enter the BBAW BUT in my time, I've definitely picked up some idols or...ok....rather mentors, in the community (and even developed a love of YA along the way!) and I've been so excited for this whole process to go down. Thank you so much for all the work you've done on it!!!

I'll be curious to read your thoughts on Roesch's book, Amy. My review is scheduled to go up tomorrow. I am glad to hear you are enjoying it. That is such a great meme. I may have to try it one of these days.

Thank you for all the hard work you've put into BBAW. You are such an inspiration, Amy.

1000 blogs?! I can barely keep up with the 150 or so blogs I already follow. LOL.

The Ruins is a scary place for your soul to be.

Kudos to you for all the hard work you put into BBAW this year. It was a monumental task and one that you did well. Congratulations!

Jenners said...

First of all, thanks for all your hard work on the BBAW. 1,000 blogs -- I can't even imagine the work. I was so excited to be an award panelist but had to drop out due to a personal issue (my father died). I felt really bad about it but I was really in no condition to read blogs and judge them when I was a bit of a basket case. So thank you and all the others who put in so much work on this task. You should feel so proud of how this event has grown.

And second, this is one cool meme. I'm going to try it one day when I have a little more mental power.

I did play along and I think my answers rock.

It is amazing how many book blogs there are out there. I want to follow more, but it's really difficult to make time for it all: reading, blogging, reading other blogs, and then everything else I do. Not sure how other bloggers do it sometimes.
