Review: An Offer You Can't Refuse by Jill Mansell

A few years ago, I used to buy boxes of books off of ebay. It was pretty awesome to get boxes of 10-12 books for less than ten dollars. Through this method, I discovered Jill Mansell. I then tried to get my hands on every Jill Mansell book I could find. When I found out Sourcebooks would be releasing Mansell's books here in the States, I jumped up and down and squealed. When they offered An Offer You Can't Refuse to me, well, it was an offer I couldn't refuse.

Lola and Dougie are young and madly in love. Dougie's preparing to head off to college, but they are certain their love can survive this transition. Dougie's mother doesn't approve of Lola, though, and offers her money to break up with Dougie. At first Lola is horrified but the a family situation forces her to accept the deal.

Fast forward ten years and Lola bumps into Dougie again! She has all the same old feelings but Dougie isn't impressed. Can she win him back?

So yes, this my friends is chick lit at its finest. What I love about Mansell's books are her loveable characters, sense of humor, and plotting. Pretty much everything.

Sometimes, I just want to read a book that is sheer pleasure, that makes me laugh often, and feel good about life. So when I'm in that sort of mood, Jill Mansell's books are perfect. And I make no apology for gladly spending a few hours of my life this way.

I loved this one as well, one aspect that I loved was Lola's job was managing a bookshop. A healthy love of books always wins my heart. And the entire cast of characters, with the exception of Dougie's mother, were lovely. And the plotting...she wastes absolutely nothing, every bit of story is brought out for maximum humorous effect and drama.

So if you're going to read chick lit, and by golly yes I am, then you better make sure you're reading Jill Mansell. You can start with An Offer You Can't Refuse!

Rating: 4.5/5
Things You Might Want to Know: There is a bit of language and sex.

I also like to grab and get comfortable with funny, light books that will make me feel good about life. Sometimes we just have to and it seems like this one might be just the one. Thanks Amy!

This is fantastic! I fell in lurve with Jill Mansell when I was living in the UK. After spending a small fortunate shipping from amazon.co.uk to the US, I decided I'd just have to do without. Great to hear they're circulating her stuff here, too!

Amy, I was the same way with ebay. I swear, that's why I have so many books in my house. At the time, the "Brit Chick Lit" books were my favorites. I LOVE Jill Mansell, Rowan Coleman, Cathy Kelly, Fiona Walker, Chris Manby....I could go on!!

Although I don't read a lot of this anymore, I will definitely have to pick this one up!
