Friday Finds October 10, 2008

I have always wanted to participate in Friday Finds but generally I'm not organized enough to do so. This week I worked really diligently on marking the books that look good, so we'll see! :)

Booth's Sister by Jane Singer found on Lesa's Book Critiques.
I'm always up for learning more about interesting characters in history and in light of the fact that Kevin Bacon is working on an entire television series based on the Booths...this one looks like a good bet.

Losing Kei by Suzanne Kamata as found on Diary of an Eccentric

I lived in Japan for about a year and a half and am still fascinated by all things Japanese. This looks like a fascinating story.

The Vampyre by Tom Holland as found on Things Mean a Lot.
I love vampires and the part of her review that really got to me was this: "I love troubled, tortured, guilt-ridden, beautiful and fascinating vampires. They are my kind of vampires. And so this was the most satisfying vampire story I had read in a long, long time." Yeah, me too, so I might really enjoy this one. Plus, it's perfect for the season.

The Retreat by David Bergen as found on Bookshipper
First of all, I just love the cover. Additionally, she said the writing is really pretty...that always pleases me! (looks like this book is only in available in Canada?!?)

I think that's it....at least that is all that was starred in my reader.

I love all of these books you selected. Anna's giving away a copy of Losing Kei I believe on Diary of an Eccentric.

Losing Kei has been on my wishlist for a while but Anna's review and the interview with the author has made me want to move it up the list!
And I think a lot of us have added The Vampyre based on Nymeth's review! :)

*Losing Kei* looks wonderful. I read an anthology and short story edited by Suzanne Kamata.

I read about *Booth's Sister* on another blog (whose?!?); that does look good, too.

Enjoy your reading!

I'm getting The Retreat from LT's ER this month. I'm sure it was available to the US too, but I could be wrong about that.

"Booth's Sister" looks really neat. It's going on the infinite TBR list.

Great finds! I really want to read The Vampyre after reading Nymeth's review and Booth's Sister sounds cool too.
