The Sunday Salon!

I love Sundays! And reading! And reading a book by one of my favorite authors that is creepy and gory without overkill! That's my plan for today...to finish up Tess Gerritsen's The Keepsake Then write a review for it tomorrow. (for The Friendly Book Nook)

What I'm really excited about? Next weekend I'm going to Kentucky! (I feel like I haven't left California in ages) My grandma lives there! My mom and sister are going, too. So we'll have a fun girls weekend. My sister is coming up from Costa Rica where she lives. I want to dump a bunch of books on her, but sadly the airlines now charge an arm and a leg for luggage. It's wrong, I tell you! But that doesn't matter, I'm daydreaming about which books to take on the plane with me. I'm thinking about taking Twilight as apparently it's hard to put down and I haven't read it yet. Unfortunately, waiting so long to read a really popular book can sometimes be a mistake. I know a lot of people weren't happy with the series conclusion. I'll probably like it, though. How about Water for Elephants? Have that on the shelf and haven't read it, either. Or maybe the books in Allison Brennan's latest series which I'm behind on as well. They're sure to be page turners. What do you recommend?

(PS yes I know I have several loose ends to tie up re: BBAW. The directory should be coming soon, we decided to do some rearranging last minute. I'll start posting winners tonight and also work on a post-BBAW survey to get input for next year. I'll also post all the winners of awards. It's coming, I promise!)

Argh, I probably wouldn't take 'Twilight,' if only because it's a very fast read and you'll undoubtedly want to read the next in the series and it's a bit cumbersome to take both with you. Try 'Water for Elephants' since it's in my TBR mess and let us know what you think. (I'm uncertain if I'll like a circus-motif...the circus creeps me out a bit.)

Have a safe trip.

Amy, have fun. It sounds like a great trip.

Did you finish The Last Queen?

What part of Kentucky? We used to live in Lexington.

Amy, enjoy your time away. I'm up a little north in Ohio.

I have read WATER FOR ELEPHANTS and thought it was a wonderful book, but it was a little difficult for me being an animal lover.

Also, since you like crime fiction, if you haven't had a chance to check out Craig Johnson or Michael Koryta...I would definitely recommend them. And since you like Tess Gerritsen, you might also enjoy Thomas Holland. I'll be looking forward to your review of Gerritsen's book!

Personally, I'm going to finish up Ariana Franklin's THE SERPENT'S TALE and then move on to Chris Grabenstein's TILT-A-WHIRL!

Enjoy your reading time!

Didn't think I'd like Water For Elephants but I did. One of my favorite book endings ever!

While I really enjoyed Water For Elephants, you know I'm going to have to say Twilight. I'm interested to see what you think of it. Yes, it has probably been way overhyped now. (Sorry for being among the many to do this-it is just so great. Oops did it again.)

I haven't read Water for Elephants so can't comment on it. Twilight will suck you in, so that could be fun for the plane. I always find a mystery is good for the plane, or at least something easy and that grabs my attention.
Have a fabulous time! You deserve it after all your hard work!

I hope you have a fun and safe trip, Amy! I haven't read any of the books you are considering but Twilight and Water for Elephants are both books I want to read. I recently had the same dilemma when I went to Hawaii.

I haven't read Twilight either, but would like too...mostly just to see what all the hype is about. But, I absolutely LOVED Water for Elephants. You will not want to put it down! One of my all-time favorites! Have a safe and "bookful" flight!

Amy, have fun on your trip-a girl's weekend with your mom, sister and grandma is just what you need-sounds great. I liked Twilight, I still have Water for Elephants on the shelf waiting for me to get to it.

I LOVED The Keepsake and I'm looking forward to your review!

I haven't read Twilight or Water for Elephants yet, even though I bought both over the summer. I have so many great books waiting for me, but I keep buying more! (It's a bona fide bibliophile disease, methinks.) I hope you enjoy whatever you end up choosing!

Hope you have a wonderful trip!

Amy, If you should ever once for even half a second wonder why on earth you put so much time into blogging, I'm sure it's because you are doing so much for so many people in such a unique way (via blogs) and really, making our world a better, better read and far far more communicative place. Just wanna say 'thanks' for that. signed, Oh

PS. About which book to read ... while both TWILIGHT and WATER FOR ... are engaging, I'd put my money on TWILIGHT for flight material. It's an easy read, offbeat enough, goes quickly, and gives you a break from any realities at all (other than the difficulties of high school, maybe)... just sayin'- enjoy!

Yes! Read Water for Elephants! I really enjoyed this one and the ending was just perfect. I have recommended this book to everyone who loves to read.

Have a great time in Kentucky! Where in KY will you be? I love Louisville and look forward to going there every so often on business. It's not really far from Roanoke. I hope that you relax while you're there. You absolutely deserve it!!!!!! Thanks again for all you did to make BBAW a reality. It was wonderful and I thank you for all you did!

I just read both of these books recently & enjoyed them. For travel, I'd read Twilight - Water for Elephants was a bit heavy with grief and sadness (personally, I don't want to read a downer on a vacation).

Have a great time & nice blog BTW, I'll visit again.

Hi everyone!
Wow, thanks for all the comments! I'll be in Elizabethtown.
Thanks for all your recommendations...I'm leaning towards Twilight. :) I don't like animal cruelty much, so I might need to be in a different mindset for Water for Elephants. Of course, the flight is long enough I could bring both. I will undoubtedly bring a stack!
