On Memoirs

When I see a book that looks interesting (good cover, nice title), but discover it's a memoir, I automatically cringe.

I don't know why but this type of book simply does not appeal to me. It's not that I'm not interested in the lives of real people, in fact it may be that I am interested in the real lives of real people. I've now read about a couple of more memoirs that were completely imaginary and I can't help but wonder if the genre will survive under such circumstances.

One of my favorite books, of course, is a fake memoir. But at least I knew that going in. :)

How about you all? What are your feelings on this topic?

Memoirs of a Geisha. Loved it. Read it in high school actually and then got to see the movie and was very glad that they kept it clean because they could have gone the other way with some of the scenes.
I think I'm with you. Not a huge fan of the memoirs...

I had to read two memoirs of people for high school (I picked Sarah, Duchess of Wales and Ekaterina Gordevea). After that I stay away from all things Memoirs.

Except. Geisha. That is one of my favourite books EVER! in fact i had had been convinved that it had been real.... my friend and I had to search to find out it wasn't. I wasn't a big fan of the movie though

I have to admit I was disappointed by the movie as well. It's possible some books simply cannot translate to film. (I'll be writing the Other Boleyn Girl at the Nook tomorrow...another disappointment)

I did love the dancing scene though. Visually, the movie was gorgeous.

I disagee Amy. ALL Books lol. well. I think one reason why i loved chronicles of Narnia so much is because i've NOT read the books yet (cardinal No No for me. I'm always book first, movie second).

Bummer about the Other Boelyn Girl. huge fan of Natalie Portman. I think if you are going to take the time to do the book into the movie try to cram as much book in there as possible. otherwise don't bother
