Today's Question: Christian fiction is growing as a market, but there are still many unexplored storylines and under-represented genres. What issues or ideas would you like to see tackled from a Christian worldview? Or, what setting would you like to see? Which genres would you like to see more books?
My Answer: I'd like to see more international historical fiction. Seriously, when I think of historical fiction in Christian fiction, I always think of prairie romances! There is some more coming out..Bonnie Leon writes about Australia and Siri Mitchell had A Constant Heart just this year. I think there's a lot of untapped story potential!
I'd also like to see more male writers writing something other than thrillers! Have you ever noticed how most Christian fiction male writers are writing fantasy or thrillers or supernatural thrillers? Not all, not all, I know! But I'd love to see some good "literary" male writers.

Wonderful topic today, Amy. I have had the same observation as you on the "separation of sexes" withe respect to genres in Christian fiction. Got my post up at Free Spirit also-

I agree that most historical fiction and romance has become pablum. Maybe an author will read your post and stir things up a bit!
Interesting, I don't see historical fiction as prairie fiction only.
I'm finally taking part in the Saturday questions. I must be healing. LOL. Great question to think about, I have been finding that they seem to be same old same old when I read the previews of upcoming books.
have you read Judith Pella's The Russians series? it takes place during the Russian revolution with the czar's family's killing and the Bolshevieks and all that good stuff. One of my favorite historical fiction series's ever.
BJ Hoff writes some good Irish historical fiction as well.
Try Chris Fabry, author of Dogwood. He is a southern, literary writer.
I would love to see some Christian fiction written by African American MALE authors. I would also love to see more fiction where Christians make the wrong choices and have to deal with the consequences rather than just stopping themselves short of doing bad things all the time.
