I'm really enjoying reading everyone's comments. I'll have to see if I can get Dial M for Murder at the library to refresh my memory for next week.Heidenkindhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09494625457587427781noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-59406745194323137202009-06-15T14:32:50.122-07:002009-06-15T14:32:50.122-07:00I really like the little details Hitchcock adds to...I really like the little details Hitchcock adds to each movie. I learned that in North By Northwest when Roger enters the Plaza's Palm Court for his meeting, an orchestra is playing "It's a Most Unusual Day". Also opening scenes have Roger Thornhill exit his office and head north then gets in a taxi and heads west! His journey sends him in a northwesterly direction and he takes a flight from Chicago on Northwest airlines! Very cool!

RobynRobyn LaForestnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-15041290720340316112009-06-15T12:50:13.817-07:002009-06-15T12:50:13.817-07:00I want that red dress too!! Watching it again I was struck by how timeless it is. Certainly the cars, clothes, etc., place it in a certain period of time, but I could really see the whole story of mistaken identity and intrigue happening today.
My favorite scene has to be the airplane in the field. Hitchcock set that scene up beautifully - the flat fields for miles all directions, the isolated area, and then the plane zooming in for the kill. (shivers)

I'm looking forward to all the films. My college age son is planning to do the summer of Hitchcock with me (us) because he is a fan of Hitchcock films. We own almost all of them already.Lori Lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04575196285923366103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-92172126453664161562009-06-15T09:54:58.639-07:002009-06-15T09:54:58.639-07:00Enjoyed the movie a lot. Practically everything mentioned in 'the making of"' is listed in the trivia section of the movies' IMDB listing.

I agree with Robyn - really enjoyed the humor.

Deborah is absolutely right about the George Clooney/Cary Grant comparison. And yes the ending was a total crackup - the writer gets a laugh about it on the 'making of' feature.

I'm also seriously coveting the red and black dress Eva Marie Saint wore in the hotel and auction scenes.SuziQoregonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15552565982732943323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-32063643683858263712009-06-15T09:18:03.495-07:002009-06-15T09:18:03.495-07:00I loved the humor as well Robyn. I didn't think it was possible for them to get off of that one, but maybe it wasn't supposed to be so very plausible. I think this one left realism behind and went for the laughs.Nicole (Linus's Blanket)https://www.blogger.com/profile/12473607646939202824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-31151281088443172932009-06-15T06:31:14.350-07:002009-06-15T06:31:14.350-07:00Oh, I forgot to say my daughter thought the end wa...Oh, I forgot to say my daughter thought the end was "awkward" and I tend to agree on that point!
RobynRobyn LaForestnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-64097995925927036972009-06-15T06:28:37.522-07:002009-06-15T06:28:37.522-07:00I love the whole feeling to North by Northwest. Ho...I love the whole feeling to North by Northwest. How calm and polite everyone is even in the face of danger. The scene when Roger Thornhill is mistaken for George Kaplan and in result kidnapped is a perfect example. Thornhill's quick wit made me laugh through out the movie. One of my favorite lines from the movie is "Now you listen to me, I'm an advertising man, not a red herring. I've got a job, a secretary, a mother, two ex-wives and several bartenders that depend upon me, and I don't intend to disappoint them all by getting myself "slightly" killed. "

I also love the fact that my daughter (11yrs) actually came in while I was watching and was drawn into the movie, asking questions about what was going on, who is that character etc. Proving Hitchcock has timeless appeal.
RobynRobyn LaForestnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-45012747022763446672009-06-15T05:16:56.612-07:002009-06-15T05:16:56.612-07:00I forgot about this.
