It was such a treat to look through this visually extravagant diverse collection of genres. I picked up buying a book that I was attracted to soley by the cover, found the description surprising interesting and bought it.Kim Allen-Niesenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10225901212884028672noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-43505470971189779332010-01-10T19:30:41.869-08:002010-01-10T19:30:41.869-08:00I am a huge book cover snob. I see people all over reading these classics now. It thrills me to see people reading that normally would not, just because of a cover.Tihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00926060806244061354noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-31146583812363393722010-01-10T10:49:39.448-08:002010-01-10T10:49:39.448-08:00I am a little bit of everything. I am totally seduced by a cover but I am a big review reader -- not just blogs but print and online too.

When reading reviews of any type written by a stranger I am more interested in the premise or setting than I am by the opinion. Once I get to know a reviewer, his or her opinion can influence me.

I am not much taken in my popular opinion -- award winners, best-sellers -- although I do fall prey sometimes.Beth Fhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08627666337961326265noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-26138253498847944902010-01-10T10:41:55.759-08:002010-01-10T10:41:55.759-08:00*Raising my hand* Guilty as well!

Not to choose a book with the better cover, but to ditch a book with a cover that doesn't appeal. I don't like it when I do that. Like, last year I so hesitated to read Inkheart because I didn't like the cover, and when I finally did, it was one of the best books I ever read.Athirahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03366654538383603004noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-39318395335893294742010-01-08T09:06:33.911-08:002010-01-08T09:06:33.911-08:00Amy this happens to me all the time. I will read a great review of a book on a blog that by looking at the cover, sadly, I would have not considered for myself by that first initial appearance. (Gah! How shallow am I?)

I wrote a post on this subject last year and found that most readers are like me and cover is truly the eye candy that causes us to pick up the book and go a little deeper.Sheila (Bookjourney)https://www.blogger.com/profile/05354184020340930630noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-14843871778431793352010-01-08T06:57:30.975-08:002010-01-08T06:57:30.975-08:00Great post! There are so many books out there, though, we have to weed through them somehow.bermudaonionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10726401178972099557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-45001093361047989332010-01-08T05:56:13.189-08:002010-01-08T05:56:13.189-08:00I so agree with this post! I have to admit that now, when I receive an unsolicited review copy, the cover does play a key role in determining whether or not I will review the book. It's pretty sad, but I don't know of a way to prevent it.Jenn's Bookshelveshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17773328322580511441noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-90966272522268284142010-01-08T04:56:13.969-08:002010-01-08T04:56:13.969-08:00I definitely do this, especially when I go to the ...I definitely do this, especially when I go to the library with no particular book in mind. I choose by colour depending on what genre I like. Usually red/black = mystery/crime, pink = chicklit, blue = heartfelt/sappy, etc. Then I judge on the cover/title. Punny names get extra points, like "Bank On It" which could be about a bank heist.Jennhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14596892702798575269noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-26623215791423796352010-01-08T04:40:29.634-08:002010-01-08T04:40:29.634-08:00You're right in your thoughts, Amy. When they see their cover for the first time, it is always a question of whether they've won the lottery or not. Which is sad, since so many of us make snap decisions based on that cover. That power should not be so much removed from the author's hands. Still we can't help it can we? We are visual people. I'm the same way with wine, I hate to say.Sandy Nawrothttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00564390728106776030noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-9233750907362124752010-01-08T02:36:28.910-08:002010-01-08T02:36:28.910-08:00Oh, Amy. I am big book buyer, as you know, and no matter what, I had to have The Piano Teacher in my house, based on that cover alone. I didn't stand in the bookstore reading pages, no, not me. I just went in, saw that cover, and the book was mine.

But as an author I should always keep in mind how little say the authors have. I should be doing a far more objective job of choosing my reading. It's a hard thing to do.Beth Kepharthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14236487532413398431noreply@blogger.com
