Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but there is no need to put down an entire country and culture. Oh well. It's too bad that the book doesn't seem to rise above the title (or does the title give away the fact that she doesn't really change?) I appreciate your review though, because it helped me figure out if this book would interest me. I prefer books that show appreciation for other cultures.Paula Krapfhttp://twitter.com/PaulaatAMEnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-90628681166561361202009-10-27T10:11:48.020-07:002009-10-27T10:11:48.020-07:00I was 33 when we moved to France and we didn't...I was 33 when we moved to France and we didn't give it much thought before we went. There are some things that are difficult to adjust to when you live in another society, but you have to just accept that things are different, not necessarily worse or better. We loved the public transportation in France, so I'm with you on that. This book sounds like a lot of whining, so I think I'll skip it.bermudaonionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10726401178972099557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-50712901038374631722009-10-27T05:25:27.097-07:002009-10-27T05:25:27.097-07:00I've been hopping around seeing what other peo...I've been hopping around seeing what other people thought about the book and everyone else (besides you and me) so far seems to think she had this great and abiding love for Japan and the Japanese. I was so grateful to see that you disagree with this as I never did see it either, thinking she hadn't enjoyed her time there, never tried to open up to the people, and never accepted that the culture was different but equal to her own. I hate when I start to second guess my own reading so thank you for helping validate it. :-) I do think I liked the book more than you did overall but I did think it was just fine and not wonderful.Kristenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07651401312450990123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-50173847241945813162009-10-27T04:49:13.352-07:002009-10-27T04:49:13.352-07:00yeah the title was the main reason why i didn'...yeah the title was the main reason why i didn't request this one to review. i think i would probably have the same feelings you did if i had had it. wise decision.Deborahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02147790818681999121noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11303971.post-22328577718699990962009-10-27T04:43:31.150-07:002009-10-27T04:43:31.150-07:00I was a little surprised that the title flew. I'm sorry to hear that she didn't develop and appreciation for the country and the culture. What a bummer that it was a complain fest and she didn't "grow".Nicole (Linus's Blanket)https://www.blogger.com/profile/12473607646939202824noreply@blogger.com
