This is a beautiful version of a beautiful song. I always forget this song exists - my family sings just about every Christmas carol known to man except for this one, because it makes my aunt Becky cry. (Not for any tragic reason from her past or anything; she just thinks it sounds sad.)
Oh, how beautiful! I had never heard it before now and I am surprised that it somehow escaped my attention. Now, I have to find the lyrics version and keep them in my music library!
By rights, this is an Advent song, based on the O Antiphons, which are are sung at Vespers from December 17 to December 23.
In our day and age, poor Advent gets such short shift...because with the exception of the odd advent calender and advent wreath (3 purple candles, one rose) there is not much to sell. And Christmas is all about the selling, ya know.
But I will certainly agree, it is a very beautiful song.
