Bob Hamer is a 26-year veteran of the FBI. In undercover operations Hamer posed as everything from a drug dealer to an aging pedophile. His last undercover assignment-and his hardest-was infiltrating NAMBLA, the North American Man/Boy Love Association. Now, looking back on a career rich in the kind of action that makes for great cinema, Bob tells us of the challenges he endured and overcame as he stared the dark side of humanity in the face-and never blinked. It is rare for an agent to serve undercover long-term, but he made a career out of a job that can completely consume and destroy a man. Remarkably, through all of this Bob found a way to remain true to his faith, and always put his family before his work.I have three copies of this to give away!
This one is open worldwide. Just leave a comment and tell me who your favorite fictional FBI or police or detective character is...in books of course! Mine is Jane Rizzoli.
You can't go wrong with Sherlock Holmes. =)
ReplyDeleteLucas Davenport in The "Prey" series by John Standford.

Gotta go with Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot. Love him!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite would be Alex Delaware, a psychologist who works with the local police, and does some private detective work on his own. This series is written by Jonathan Kellerman.
ReplyDeleteHarriet Vane. So grand!

I like Jane Rizzoli too and her hubby. (If we were talking TV I'd say Agent Seeley Booth, because he's hot :D )
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win this, true crime and espionage are one of my favourite non-fiction areas to read (Terminal Spy notwithstanding).
I really like John Cardinal, the police detective in Giles Blunt's crime/mysteries set in Canada. His novels often win awards and they deserve to. Please enter me. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThe first character that came to mind was Sherlock Holmes, and then Grady the sheriff in Fried Green Tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteI really like Agent Pendergrast from Preston and Child. He's kinda creepy, kinda sweet, and all around intriguing. I'd love to read this book you're offering up. Sounds really interesting.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the entry.

Dave,Kate O'Malley's husband in the O'Malley series by Dee Henderson. My all time favorite author and series.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to go with Lucas Davenport, too.
ReplyDeleteI love Lucas Davenport but I see there are others that already named him as a favorite. I also like V.I. Warkowski (SPELLING?) even though it dates me.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe I'm the first to say Elvis Cole and Joe Pike (Robert Crais), but they're my favorite. They're followed very closely by the likes of Walt Longmire, Lincoln Perry, Poke Raferty, Ellie Hatcher, Phillip Marlowe, Kel McKelvey, Spenser, Temperance Brennan, Alex Cooper, Myron Bolitar and most recently added Kubu Bengu...geez, I just love crime fiction!
ReplyDeleteI love too many mysteries. It's hard to narrow down.
ReplyDeleteTempe Brennan and Detective Ryan from Kathy Reichs' Bones novels. Hey Ann, have you read them? Makes you see Seeley Booth and the TV show, "Bones" a whole new way.
Gideon Oliver, from books by Aaron Elkins.
Kate Martinelli, from the mysteries set in San Fransisco, by Laurie R. King
Teddy Roosevelt, although I believe he was technically a policeman and not a detective, during the plot events of Caleb Carr's "The Alienist." Brr. scary wonderful mystery.

I don't think I know too many of these but I have enjoyed Alex Cross in James Patterson's books.

Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone has been my favorite for years...people tell me that's only because I haven't read any of Janet Evanovich's work lol

I don't read a lot of mystery, but this one sounds interesting, because it's true! So I'll go with Sherlock Holmes, I've actually read some of those works!
ReplyDeleteMine is Butch from the J.R. Ward series.
