Ten CDs I Love #3: Jane Siberry When I Was a Boy

This CD is one of those cds that I have listened to no less than ten thousand times since I first discovered it in high school. It was the perfect CD to listen to when my heart was all shattered over a boy, and yet I have continued to love it long after that. I have many other Jane Siberry recordings, but none have quite captured the same beauty and longing and wistfulness of this one.

Ok, I just looked up the videos and I'm afraid they will scare you away! This album really is very unique and so I'm just posting a snippet of the song "Love is Everything" which probably is a bit more normal than the rest of the album. It's not the whole song, but will give you a feel for the album.



I'd love to know if any of the rest of you like Jane Siberry!

Ten CDs I Love #2--October Project

I think Kat has stopped doing Music Monday carnival style, and since I have that 10 CDs I Love series you are all eagerly awaiting more posts in, I decided to steal Euphrony's idea and just do Music Monday anyway. Besides, I about had a heart attack when I realized just how many book posts are due this week, so I figured we could break it up a little with some music. And who knows. Maybe I'll even blog what I thought about Prince Caspian, Juno, or National Treasure 2 all movies I've watched recently. I could even throw in a few more posts groaning about the price of gas. And of course we could chat about whether or not M. Night Shyamalan's newest movie will get him back in the good graces of movie goers everywhere. There's just so much to talk about!!!

Anyway, I owe my love for this next group to my friend Flora. Who I always called Michelle, but then she changed her name on me. Anyway, she gave me this cassette tape (yes, a cassette tape!) and I fell in love! I had to upgrade to CD and also get their other CD. Of course sometime after that, it all fell apart and they are no more. But I think they still have a very devoted following. Mary Fahl also released a solo CD which is very good but that was in 2003. So I have no idea what's up with her now. In any case, these songs make me want to sit down and write for hours, which is the same effect they had on me in high school. I still have the piles of tortured poetry to prove it. I still love listening to them. They have stood the test of time.

I'm frustrated that my favorite songs aren't available so I'm posting this sampler video. I would love love love to know if any of the rest of you out there liked/like October Project because I have never ever met someone else who did! :)

Ten CDs I Love: #1--Sarah Brightman

Time for a new music series! I thought about calling this ten CDs in my permanent collection but that was too long. But that's what these are..in this day and age of iTunes and stealing music..I own the hard copies of all of these fair and square. These are in no certain order. I'm hoping to tie this into Music Monday when possible so as not to bore you to death with music posts.

I really love Sarah Brightman, but my favorite of all of her cds is the Classics cd. It combines the more classical recordings she has done...not so much the pop stuff. So much gorgeous music. I've been listening to it a lot lately and I think I'm getting smarter as a result! Okay, maybe not, but one can only hope.

I've had the good fortune of seeing Sarah perform the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber live and that's where I first heard this song. I think it's so beautiful...sad and sweet. So for your listening enjoyment...Pie Jesu.
